The Pack’s 3rd Edition F1 Criterium
ThePack, , runs a series of criterium called the Toonies. Each week on wednesday, they do a crit and they recently added an amateur category, both for women and people that consider themselves not expert. That is because the expert category is quite fast with guys like Josh Tyrell who qualified 2nd at RHC Barcelona, and others that can follow him around the track for 45 minutes.
Each year, the F1 criterium is the finale of the series. Last year, the weather was bad. And it looked like it would be the same this year. However, the showers stopped and the dark skies cleared up. This race is a 10 lap sufferfest of 40+ kilometers around the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the experts, and 5 lap for the amateur category. Fixed Gear, lights and helmets were mandatory, and there was a team ready in case of an accident, which did happen on the second turn, but were light and did not prevent the racers involved from racing.
For the expert race, after a frantic first couple of turns with attacks and hunts, the peloton started to calm down to keep it’s strength for the final sprint, where the young but very strong Christian Trenchev did his best to put himself and couple of bike’s distance between him and the 2nd position.
As for the women’s race, the two favorites Catherine and Paula gave all they could to finally have Catherine win, her first victory in the series, but not the last.
The podiums are as follows:
1st: Catherine Simard
2nd: Paula Manzano
3rd: Coco Helbig
