Journal Entry #9 : On cargo bikes and family blogs
I really love cargo bikes. I love them for all you can do with them, whether it be carrying stuff or kids.
Cue in the family blogs.
I have a totally assumed matante side and I love family blogs. Heck I even am the editor of one (Shout out to all my cool mom and dad friends).
But what I love more than regular family blogs are blogs about families who bike. From car-free life stories to touring travel journals, I simply think they are fucking cool. I really hope that when I do have kids, I can do just like those families. One of my personal fave, if you care to check it out, is the The Family Adventure Project.
Don’t be appalled by the slightly “uncool” name. Stuart and Kirstie, the couple behind the project, are as awesome as can be and they have the raddest bike collection. Another cycling family I really like is the Pedal Powered Family, from Hamilton in Ontario. They travelled through the Americas a few year back and are now car-free.
Still, I don’t want to wait to have kids to get my hands on a cargo bike. However, they are not cheap and that’s why I got really excited when I came upon a Reddit DIY thread about cargo bike.
The picture headlining this post is the final result of the hard work and craftsmanship of the Redditor Ulyssanov (and it’s a shame we cannot find more info about him!). I’m far from being as great a metalworker as him, but having good basic skills in welding I almost want to try my hand at a similar project this summer!
