Grand Prix Cyclistes : Quebec and Montreal 2014
We were at the Grand Prix yesterday. It was the perfect opportunity to walk around the mountain and enjoy the air, while also attending the highest-level cycling event in Montreal. 250-ish riders screaming past us in a torrent of derailleurs at an average of 47km/h up and down 17 times our longest hill.
Many nice bikes and people were seen rolling around the circuit and everyone was smoothed by the cold weather. Now, we won’t offer you today a writeup of the race, we feel like that has been done by the mainstream media, but we wan’t to make a statement about the state of cycling here in Montreal.
The amount of spectators this year was lower than last year’s, but considering the weather that was pretty normal. But we can see that there is a fanbase enjoying pro-level and international events, this is why we support events like this.
Of course, it’s a bit shameful that there are almost as many cars running around for 200 kilometers. This is also why we support people’s initiatives in organizing races, creating trails or building a velodrome. We’ll also use this moment to invite you to montrealfixed.com’s event ; the Mount-Royal series, which is a race in similar conditions, fur for fixed gears only, and of lower total distance with 3 laps.
Montreal is our beautiful city and every type of bike racing or competition in it will be welcomed with open arms by Chat de Ruelle, be it road bikes or track, mixed or BMX, Mountain or whatever, we’re in. We’ll also add that we want you, organiser or racer, to invite us to your events, so that we may enjoy it ourselves and make others aware of it.
