Cherubim R-2 50th Anniversary Model
Cherubim is a Japanese high-quality steel bicycle builder. They make some of the most coveted NJS framesets and dabble in either classic Reynolds-tubing bicycles and into high-quality modern stainless steel bikes. Born in 1965 at the same time as Miyuki and 3Rensho, Cherubim is the only surviving Japanese company of that ere. Imagination, craftwork and innovation are what we use to describe both their products and their makers.
The R-D 50th Anniversary Model is a custom full-only order, restricted at 25 in total. Made of a mix of Kaiser, Columbus and Reynolds tubing, this frameset will cost you something along the lines of 400,000 yen. (Which could seem outrageous, but isn’t if you are into this type of specific collector’s thing). Anyway, the frames are gorgeous and forego all shortcuts the framebuilders will do to augment productivity. That means that every single detail will be handled like it was the only thing that’s important.
I hope those bikes will see the road, because even at their high-price point and exclusivity, they are an example of the highest quality steel and modern bicycles the industry can provide. And all that by the hands of one the Japan’s oldest and wisest framebuilders.
