Beat the Main XI
The Eleventh Edition of Beat the Main happened yesterday and it was pretty rad. After a rainy and grey Saturday, we had low hopes for the weather on Sunday. We woke up to a nice day, thanks to a strong breeze that cleared the sky. However, the wind didn’t hold up the racers as they stormed through the Main. As always, registration was held in a parc in the Old Port on De La Commune. The riders were given spoke cards and a number. There was a random draw to determine the starting order, one leaving at each minute interval.
From De La Commune, they started with an uphill climb. Well, it’s St.Laurent street so it actually is a long slope for quite a bit. We were posted on the angle of Rachel with a bunch of messengers and everyone was cheering loudly. Most often, passers-by were wondering what the hell we’ve been cheering for until they saw (or didn’t) someone rushing past the busy intersection.
Something like 20 minutes (or less) later, they racers arrived at the end, a park a bit after Gouin Blvd. There was compilation of official times and beer was offered. First overall, and first messenger, place belongs to David Myers, who did very good with a chrono of 18 minutes. Check out the gallery to get a hang of the awesome faces and great bikers that were present.
